She\u2019s become a voice for \u201cNew Moab\u201d and has been a frequent contributor to the Letters section of the Moab weekly, the <i>Times-Independent<\/i>; I read, with curiosity, her inflammatory public comments<b>.<\/b>\u00a0 And when a few Moabites told me she\u2019d come from a prominent family in my favorite New West town Aspen, Colorado, I decided to respond to some of her remarks via a short essay in The Zephyr.<br \/>\n<i><br \/>\nLINK:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canyoncountryzephyr.com\/2015\/06\/01\/take-it-or-leave-it-on-the-facts-darcey-brown-moab-then-now-by-jim-stiles\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.<wbr \/>canyoncountryzephyr.com\/2015\/<wbr \/>06\/01\/take-it-or-leave-it-on-<wbr \/>the-facts-darcey-brown-moab-<wbr \/>then-now-by-jim-stiles\/<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t get angry or call her names<b>.<\/b> In fact, I even suggested that she probably \u201cmeant well.\u201d But I took issue with Brown\u2019s claim that grassroots environmental groups lived in semi-poverty and offered some hard financial numbers (via the IRS)\u00a0 for the likes of\u00a0 SUWA and the Grand Canyon Trust. I also noted that, coming from a very powerful and wealthy Colorado family\u2013her father played an influential role in the Aspen ski industry\u2014 it might be difficult to relate to the issues and concerns of working class people in Grand County.
