Everyone wants both safety and freedom. That\u2019s why we have the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, after all. We want the government to be able to catch \u201cbad guys\u201d and we want for us, the \u201cgood guys,\u201d to be left alone. And as long as the argument is framed in such a way\u2014to stop the \u201cbad guys\u201d from using the scary \u201cencryption\u201d technology to kill innocents\u2014you\u2019ll find very few average folks arguing against it.<\/p>\n<p>The primary tool in the arsenal of those who want to break encryption is the fact that most people don\u2019t understand what they\u2019re talking about. They don\u2019t know what <a href=\"http:\/\/computer.howstuffworks.com\/encryption.htm\" target=\"_blank\">encryption<\/a> is, or how a weakening of encryption might<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/backchannel\/even-if-terrorists-do-use-strong-encryption-we-still-need-it-548657f5b080#.kgg5ux1nu\" target=\"_blank\"> hurt <\/a>them. They\u2019re good people, right?
