LOOKING SOUTH from near Church Rock, cowboys and sheepmen left their sometimes poignant sentiments on a sandstone wall, just a few hundred yards from the highway.

"REMEMBER OF ME..." His name was L.E. Mestas and he came from Durango, Colorado. His signature

can be found at several locations near Church Rock. But this was his last inscription... He signed it, "Your

friend, forever...L.E. Mestas"

LONESOME COWBOYS: Church Rock could be a very

lonely place in the 1930s.

REMNANTS OF A PLANE CRASH: In the late 1960s, a B-52 bomber exploded in mid-air, just south of Church Rock. Bits of debris still litter the crash site. A feature story will appear in The Zephyr on the crash this summer.
