ARCHES DUST DEVIL…1979

In 1979 the Department of Energy was in the process of looking for a good location to build their Nuclear Waste Repository and the north end of Salt Valley adjacent to Arches NP was a prime location. They bored and drilled and prodded and reluctantly concluded that the geology wasn’t right.  They left a mess as well and for several years the drill site became a dust bowl when the wind blew, as seen here…JS
