Noted venture capitalist/environmental benefactor DAVID BONDERMAN, who sits on the boards of several environmental groups, including the Grand Canyon Trust and the Wilderness Society and contributes to many others has this to say about fellow venture capitalist/presidential candidate MITT ROMNEY:
“I think he has done a particularly incompetent job of defending himself frankly, and he’s got lost in his ‘I created jobs’ thing when the truth of the matter is we invest money for widows and orphans,” David Bonderman, founding partner of TPG Capital, told the SuperInvestor U.S. conference in San Francisco on Wednesday.

(from RT.com) ‘Lift off! Lunar ‘space elevator’ may be built by 2020 (VIDEO, PHOTOS)’

AN EXCERPT:   US firm announced an ambitious project to build a lunar space elevator that could transport both robots and humans using an existing technology, in less than a decade. Fundraising efforts are already underway.

Firm’s founder and former NASA researcher Michael Laine stated that LiftPort Group is capable of building a lunar space elevator within this decade. “About six months ago, we had a fundamental breakthrough, a breakthrough that we think is going to transform human civilization and we want you to be a part of it,” Laine said.

A lunar space elevator is a cable running from the surface of the moon into space. It is similar to a concept known as the earth space elevator, which is LiftPort’s ultimate goal. The idea of the space elevator is designed to permit transport along the cable from a planetary surface directly into space without the use of large rockets. The cable would be held up due to the competing forces of gravity and the upward centrifugal force.

(from Yahoo) ‘World may be forced to go vegetarian by 2050, scientists say’

AN EXCERPT:  By the year 2050, you may be forced to become a vegetarian. That is, if Sweden’s water scientists are to be believed….According to the Stockholm International Water Institute, “There will not be enough water available on current croplands to produce food for the expected 9 billion population in 2050 if we follow current trends and changes towards diets common in western nations.”…Humans now derive about 20 percent of their daily protein intake from animal-based products, reports London’s Guardian. But a new report published by the institute says the world’s population will have to cut that figure to 5 percent by 2050 to accommodate the planet’s “considerable regional water deficits.”

AN EXCERPT:   “We want to make this a world-class project that nobody will ever forget,” Hauri told a crowd of local, state and federal officials who have been working for years on a new design for the Moab Lions Park. Officials gathered at the Grand Center April 23 for a public presentation of the proposed design after two days of workshops in Moab….A member of the Lions Park Planning Group (LPPG), Schappert has been one of the primary grant-seekers for the Lions Park development and “Moab transit hub.” Between the footbridge, the new Colorado River bridge under development now, and the trails and interpretive signs and facilities that will complete the central site, “It’s all going to be a showpiece,” Schappert said.

(from IndianCountry) ‘Opposition Grows For Navajos’ Planned Grand Canyon Escalade’ AND images of proposed gondola and ‘riverwalk’

AN EXCERPT:  Developers are pushing forward with a plan for a large-scale tourist destination on the Navajo Nation at a place held sacred by the Hopi Tribe, despite mounting opposition even among some Navajo tribal members….Grand Canyon Escalade, as it’s been named, would span 420 acres near the confluence of the Colorado and Little Colorado Rivers just east of Grand Canyon National Park. Its centerpieces would include a tramway to carry tourists from the South Rim to the Colorado River, and a riverwalk….“Pedestrian friendly arcades will allow visitors to access Artisan Studios and Galleries along the Canyon rim,” reports a new web site for the project, “which will offer not only shopping but the ability to interact with Native American artists and artisans, dine at restaurants with unparalleled views, learn about the Navajo and Native Americans by touring the Cultural Center, and spend the night at a Canyon-side lodge.”

DICK GREGORY on ‘POVERTY’

“You gotta say this for the white race—its self confidence knows no bounds. Who else could go to a small island in the Pacific where there’s no poverty, no crime, no unemployment, no war, and no worry—and call it a ‘primitive society?'”
