The Goblet of Venus
The GOBLET OF VENUS was a popular natural feature and tourist attraction until its demise in the 1950s. It was just off the old road from Blanding to Natural Bridges, via the Bears Ears and was mentioned prominently in the 1940 WPA guidebook. In fact, I was able to find the remains by using their directions.
How the Goblet fell is unclear, though there have been persistent rumors that teenagers from Blanding felled the magnificent stone pillar with a jeep and a tire chain. But no one has ever been held personally responsible for the vandalism.
Today, there are no signs to mark its location. All that remains is a pile of broken sandstone shards.
