stand by for ClimateGate – the movie

Stand by for a word from our climate specialists: Scientists “at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based. It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.”

“The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.”

Meanwhile, Wired Magazine weighs in with this fun tidbit: “The really inconvenient truth: We’re toast. Fried. Steamed. Poached. More so than even many hand-wringing carbonistas admit. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, C02 that’s already in the air or in the pipeline will stoke ‘irreversible’ warming for the next 1,000 years. Any scheme cobbled together in Copenhagen for slowing—forget reversing—the growth of greenhouse gases will be way too little, way too late. In the apt jargon of industry, a hotter planet is already ‘baked in.’ James Lovelock, the British chemist who redubbed Mother Earth as ‘Gaia,’ tells the ungilded truth: Can we hit a carbon Undo button? ‘Not a hope in hell.’”

The sad truth, inconvenient or not, is that the game is going to come down to which technology wins the day, and the mega-bucks that go along with the contract to “save the planet.” If ClimateGate gets any weirder, many of the neo-greens wandering the malls are going to be headed for the turnstiles faster than you can say “Al Gore’s grandmother wears combat boots.”

The good news? It’s going to get much crazier before the bell tolls.
